First exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1913, this painting by Walter Langley (1852-1922) will be offered for sale at Lawrences Auctioneers of Bletchingley on March 20.
The 4ft 6in x 3ft 4in (1.37 x 1.01m) signed
oil on canvas entitled Mother Love was consigned from a
private source for whom the auctioneers have also carried out
probate work.
In an original gilt frame, it is a
comparitively large work by the founder of the Newlyn School and
has not appeared at auction in the last 25 years.
It shows a Newlyn fisherman's cottage
interior with a grandmother, mother and child seated to the
foreground beside a table.
Estimate: £70,000-90,000.
