Winchester’s winning retro fair looks to expand

30 July 2013Written by Joan Porter

An antiques and collectors’ street market in one of the UK’s wealthiest cities has expanded from just 15 stalls to 80 in three years and is still growing.

Held monthly on a Sunday in Winchester's High Street and Middlebrook Street, the next is on Sunday, August 4.

Organiser Jackie Edwards, of street market operators SMT Management, has successfully trialled two 60-stall quarterly markets in Bishop's Waltham, just eight miles away and now has her sights set on an even bigger venue as Southampton city centre beckons.

"The market in Winchester, which brings new audiences to the centre, has a mix of traders and enthusiastic collectors selling across the board including furniture, linens and textiles, books and retro," says Jackie.
