Frank Marshall’s two-day sale on January 29-30 in Knutsford, Cheshire, will include this painting by Laslett John Pott (1837-1898).
Entitled O Liberte! Que de crimes on
comment en ton nom! (Oh Liberty! What crimes are
committed in thy name!).
Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1874, the
signed and dated 3ft 4in x 5ft 10in (1.02 x 1.78m) oil depicts
Madame Roland being taken to the guillotine during the French
Revolution.
