Bidders set to go head-to-head

This 19th century ceramic plaque painted with two duellists in sepia forms part of the collection of the late Bernard Popland, a former championship fencer.

The group, which will be offered at Adam Partridge of Macclesfield's two-day sale on January 31-February 1, includes various duelling swords and 18th and 19th century books on the subject.

The plaque shown measures 10 x 15in (25.5 x 38cm).
