Fenton photographs in Exeter?

11 January 2013Written by ATG Reporter

Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood’s three-day fine art sale on January 29-31 in Exeter includes several photographs possibly taken by the founder of the Photographic Society, Roger Fenton (1819-69).

Included in a large photo album once belonging to his friend Col Edmund Gilling Hallewell (1822-69), a professional army officer and noted amateur artist, the six unsigned, large-format photographs of Bolton Abbey are thought to have been taken by Fenton in 1854.

Estimate: £4000-6000.
