The highlight of the recent Decorative Art and Design sale conducted by Sworders of Stansted Mountfitchet was this Wedgwood Fairyland lustre malfrey pot and cover designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones (1881-1945).
Measuring 13in (33cm) high, it is printed
and painted with the Ghostly Wood pattern and was in
near-perfect condition, with only some minor surface scratches and
wear to the gilding.
Entered for the sale on January 29 by a local private vendor
with an estimate of £20,000-25,000, it attracted bidding from the
UK and the US before it sold to a London dealer at £29,500 (plus
20% buyer's premium).
