The Florida organisers International Fine Art Expositions (IFAE) have teamed up with the French dealer association Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA), organisers of the Paris Biennale, to launch a Miami fair in 2014.
Miami Art + Design is
scheduled to run from February 12 to 18, 2014, in a new waterfront
location in the Noguchi Bayfront Park area of downtown Miami. It
will be promoted by David and Lee Ann Lester and David Setford of
IFAE, alongside a committee from SNA composed of Benoit Sapiro,
Barry Friedman, Christian Deydier and Robert Vallois.
American and European art and design
will be the focus of the new event. Christian Deydier said: "This
fair will be especially attractive to collectors, architects, and
designers from throughout the United States and Latin America.
Miami is a vibrant, exciting city that has become a major cultural
meeting point for the Americas."
The Lesters, who co-organised the
Summer Olympia fair in 2010 with Clarion Events, have extensive
experience of organising fairs in Miami - they founded Art Miami in
1991, the Palm Beach International Art & Antique
Fair (now American International Fine Art Fair)
in 1997 and Art Palm Beach in 1998.
SNA, however, are known for a more
restrained, traditional organising style typified by the Paris
Biennale, but are evidently looking to increase their presence
in the US.
They also recently teamed up with
seasoned New York organiser Sanford Smith to co-organise the new
Salon: Art + Design in New York, which ran from
November 8 to 12 at the Park Avenue Armory.
Although praised for its presentation
and quality, it coincided with the havoc wreaked by Hurricane
Sandy.
