This pencil drawing by Sir Edwin Landseer (1802-73) is of his own dog Brutus and dates from the mid 19th century.
It was the second dog the artist had by
that name and often features in his later drawings. Bought from
Christie's from Landseer's deceased estate in 1874, the 8½ x 11in
(22 x 28cm) work will be offered in the debut sale of Catherine
Southon Auctioneers in Shirley, South London on November 15 with an
estimate of £800-1200.
Catherine, formerly head of scientific
instruments and maritime works of art at Sotheby's, is also a
well-known face as an expert on TV shows such as Flog It! and
Antiques Road Trip.
Every one of the 300-plus lots in the sale
has been sourced privately, she says.
