Police cover in Portobello to be discussed this week

16 July 2012Written by ATG Reporter

Portobello Road antiques dealers have a fresh chance to air their views about police cover in the area now that a public meeting has been rearranged.

Traders were angry that an earlier meeting was cancelled, with the police citing lack of time because of the busy summer of Jubilee and Olympics. They are concerned about a rise in robberies and reduced police patrols.

But the new date is this week - on Wednesday, July 18, from 6-7.30pm at Lighthouse West London, with Kensington and Chelsea borough commander CS Jason Gwillim attending.

Although the meeting is not a specific dealers/police one, and is for discussing policing across the borough, it is a chance for traders to ask questions about reduced police cover in the market area on Saturdays.

A more specific dealers' meeting may well be held in future, but no details of this are available yet.
