The collection of ‘the penalty king’

12 July 2012Written by ATG Reporter

Two England caps awarded to West Ham goalkeeper Ted Hufton (1892-1967) are to be sold at Plymouth Auction Rooms on July 18.

He made his international debut against Belgium in a 2-2 draw in 1923, earning his sixth and final cap in a game against Spain in 1929 which England lost 4-3.

Making 456 appearances for The Hammers from 1919-1932, he became known as 'The Penalty King', saving 11 out of 18 penalties in his first season alone.

The collection includes a pair of medals, a metal goalkeeper inscribed with May You Keep Saving 1928, a scrapbook and two programmes. Estimate £7000-1000.
