He made his international debut against Belgium in a 2-2 draw in 1923, earning his sixth and final cap in a game against Spain in 1929 which England lost 4-3.

Making 456 appearances for The Hammers from 1919-1932, he became known as 'The Penalty King', saving 11 out of 18 penalties in his first season alone.
