The collection of Conan Doyle’s maid

At their country house sale on July 10 in Stansted Mountfitchet, Essex auctioneers Sworders will include 11 lots from the collection of Mary Jakeman, a lady’s maid to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his wife at the turn of the 20th century.

Leading the group with an estimate of £400-800 is this early signed edition of The Hound of the Baskervilles published in 1902 by McClure, Phillips & Co., New York.

Also included is an edition of The Great Boer War dating from 1900 with corrections in Conan Doyle's hand on several pages estimated at £300-500.
