Leading Dreweatts’ interiors sale in Donnington Priory, Newbury, on September 5 is this Indian or possibly Indo-Portuguese ebony, coromandel and ivory inset centre table.
It bears what is thought to be a southern
European armorial, suggesting it was made in India under Portuguese
patronage, although its style relates more to the provinces of
Gujarat or Sindh than Goa.
Consigned from a property in Marlborough,
the 2ft 5in x 2ft 6in (74 x 77cm) table is estimated at
£5000-7000.
