Suspended in a bubble of Baccarat crystal and powered only by temperature change, this Atmos 561 mechanical clock will become the first of its model to be offered at auction in the UK when it goes on sale at Fellows of Birmingham on September 3.
It was created in 2008 by Swiss watch and
clock company Jaeger LeCoultre and Australian designer Marc Newson
to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the first Atmos clock,
invented by Jean-Leon Reutter (1899-1971) in 1928 and manufactured
by Jaeger LeCoultre from 1935.
This 11in (28cm) example is numbered 531 of
888 pieces, the number eight used to symbolise infinity and
eternity, and encases a 15-jewel movement, with month calendar dial
and moon phase.
Estimate £6000-8000.
