Gymnast’s Olympic blazer up for sale

01 August 2012Written by ATG Reporter

An Olympic blazer and a painted diploma belonging to Ada Smith, a bronze medal-winning gymnast from Leigh near Wigan, will be up for auction on August 16-17 at Adam Partridge auctioneers of Macclesfield, Cheshire.

The British women's team picked up the all-around bronze medal at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, losing out to the Netherlands and Italy who won gold and silver respectively.

It is the only time Great Britain has won a female gymnastics medal. Ada Smith, who was 24 at the time, brought home her medal as well as a blazer embroidered with the Union Flag.

Estimate £300-500.
