An Olympic blazer and a painted diploma belonging to Ada Smith, a bronze medal-winning gymnast from Leigh near Wigan, will be up for auction on August 16-17 at Adam Partridge auctioneers of Macclesfield, Cheshire.
The British women's
team picked up the all-around bronze medal at the 1928 Amsterdam
Olympics, losing out to the Netherlands and Italy who won gold and
silver respectively.
It is the only time
Great Britain has won a female gymnastics medal. Ada Smith, who was
24 at the time, brought home her medal as well as a blazer
embroidered with the Union Flag.
