The single-owner sale, which has already received publicity from campaign group Raglan Rescue, who wanted to save a number of historic items for the nation, was halted late on Friday, March 30 just days before the sale was due to take place.

Christie's said: "The auction has been postponed pending resolution of a legal claim filed by a family member", but would not release any further details.

The collection comprises over 300 lots and was expected to raise in excess of £750,000.
