£60,000 raised for trade's future

27 September 2011Written by ATG Reporter

ON a sparkling evening at Sotheby’s in Bond Street last Thursday, Henry Wyndham presided over a charity auction in aid of the Company of Arts Scholars, Dealers and Collectors’ charity fund, raising over £60,000 to support the education of young people seeking careers in all areas of the decorative arts from dealing and auctioneering to museums and galleries.

The event attracted an audience of more than 350 on the night, but for those who were unable to attend there is still a chance to contribute to the cause by bidding online. A further 57 lots donated in support of the Company's causes remain on offer in a timed online auction until Friday, September 30.

Lots include paintings, photographs, silver and furniture, as well as holiday cottages, restaurant vouchers and educational courses. There are also money-can't-buy opportunities for behind-the-scenes tours at the British Museum, the Society of Antiquaries, Welbeck Abbey, the Watts Gallery near Guildford and London's Geffrye Museum.
