15 August 2011Written by ATG Reporter

THIS Holtzapffel & Deyerlein ornamental turning lathe made in London c.1827 came up for sale at Skinner in Marlborough, Massachusetts in a Science, Technology and Clocks sale.

With its 36 wooden-handled turning tools marked Holtzapffel plus many other accessories, housed in a part-glazed cabinet, it was described by the auctioneers as one of the most complete ornamental turning lathes to come on the market in many years.

It doubled a $15,000-25,000 estimate on July 16 to take $55,000 (£35,950) plus premium.
