THE National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers (NAVA) are holding their annual forum for chattels auctioneers and valuers – or anyone with an interest in the industry – at The Belfry, West Midlands just off the M42 on May 9.
An invaluable networking opportunity, it offers the chance to hear experts give their views and updates on the world of chattels auctioneering and valuing.
Speakers include Jon Peacock, ecommerce manager at ATG Media, who will present Auction Price Trends for Fine Art and Chattels Auctioneers, using data extracted from the-saleroom.com database of three million realised prices.
Shaun O'Neill from Gabriel Ltd will showcase a concept tool for remote valuations and reporting. It works by converging speech recognition, dictation, voice to text and even handwriting into one device, a tablet PC.
Chris Hamer from the Property Ombudsman will explain the structure of the resolving disputes scheme, the approaches to resolution of disputes and issues potentially giving rise to complaint.
Liz Richards, head of legal and policy at NFOPP will discuss measures to combat money laundering, while the Office of Fair Trading and HM Revenue and Customs will be on hand to answer questions.
Nick O'Reilly, director of FRP Advisory LLP, will again be explaining the impact the economy has had on the recovery industry, while Stephen Whittaker and Geoff Whitfield from Fellows Auctioneers will be examining precious gems and metals. The day will end with an open forum, overseen by Melfyn Williams, NAVA chairman.
