Canterbury double fine sales

CANTERBURY Auction Galleries are to embark on a new sales format that will double the number of fine sales held annually and offer every lot to a potential worldwide audience of Internet bidders.

“From June, we plan to raise the quality of the goods offered in all our auctions and give Internet bidders the opportunity to bid on every one of them, not just the quarterly important sales as before,” says auctioneer Tony Pratt.

“This means that every lot offered – we anticipate a total of 1200 to 1400 per sale – will be fully catalogued and illustrated in both our printed catalogues and on our website. Additionally, we will have condition reports prepared for every lot.”

The new programme of two-day auctions starts on June 22-23.

“We were one of the first auctioneers in Kent to introduce live Internet bidding to our sales and the response from our clients has proved it is clearly the way forward. The internet and auctions were made for each other.”

Commission paid by buyers and sellers will remain as before, but vendors will be asked to pay a small charge of £10 per lot towards the cost of photography and catalogue printing costs.
