ONLY three weeks after it was announced that Antiquarian Booksellers Association president Alan Shelley was standing down because of ill health, we are sorry to report that he has passed away.
Mr Shelley was elected to the General Committee in 1990 and held
a number of positions before being elected president in 2007.
He reluctantly stood down on October 26 after the return of the
cancer he had been fighting and died in the early hours of November
18 at St Peter & St James Hospice in Chailey, East Sussex.
The funeral will be held at The Downs Crematorium, Bear Road,
Brighton, BN2 3PL on Thursday, November 26 at 3.45pm and afterwards
at Pelham House Hotel, St Andrew's Lane, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7
1UW.
The family would like to have an idea of numbers of those
attending, so please contact the ABA office with your name if you
plan to attend.
They have requested no flowers, but any donations would be
welcome for St Peter and St James Hospice, which can be sent, made
payable to the Hospice, to Cooper and Son, 42 High Street, Lewes,
BN7 2DD.
