Halls answer buyers’ call for cheaper lots

Quarterly sales of modestly-priced art and antiques, which were introduced for the first time this year by leading Shropshire auction house Halls, are to become a regular fixture in the company’s sales calendar.

Designed to sell collectable ceramics and affordable furniture, jewellery, pictures and books, the Friday sales attract up to 600 lots and have regularly packed Halls’ Welsh Bridge salerooms at a time when many auctioneers are reluctant to sell low-value items.

“We have found that sales in the £80 to £500 price range are very attractive to buyers and sellers alike,” said fine art director Jeremy Lamond.

The company’s 2009 programme, released last week, sees the first of next year’s collective sales scheduled for February 13.
