Offered on October 23, it had everything going for it - date, colours, composition and condition.

From c.1922, the 18 x 16in (46 x 41cm) oil on canvas was deemed to be a highly assured composition with the attractive and bright colours that buyers prefer.

It was part of the collection formed by J.W. Blythe, one of the main patrons of the Scottish Colourists, and was sold privately by his descendants 18 months ago to another private collector who was the consignor here.

The buyer's premium was 25/20/12 per cent.
