In her address, Baroness Rawlings, president of the association, recognised that this was a difficult time for the trade, but reminded them that BADA itself was founded in crisis due to a proposed luxury tax to boost the Treasury following the Great War.

Association chairman Richard Marchant, serving his fourth term, thanked outgoing Secretary General Elaine Dean for her 25 years service, and past president Lord Brooke also delivered a speech.

But it was guest-of-honour Lord Heseltine, Tory heavyweight and former deputy prime minister, who really sparkled with a speech aimed directly at the trade, wittily peppered with anecdotes about his own lifelong passion for collecting.
