Shrewsbury auctioneers Halls will have a new format for their weekly sales in the new year.
From January 8, the Thursday sales of Victorian and Edwardian furniture and effects – previously held at 6pm in an effort to catch private trade – will be moved to the earlier time of 2pm. For the first time they will be promoted on the firm’s website in an attempt to reach a wider audience.
As previously reported, sales of modestly priced art and antiques, which were introduced for the first time in 2008, are to become a quarterly fixture in the company’s 2009 sales calendar – the first on February 13.
At a time when many auctioneers are reluctant to sell low-value items, fine art director Jeremy Lamond told ATG that these sales of collectable ceramics and affordable furniture jewellery, pictures and books priced between £50 and £500 proved very attractive to buyers and sellers alike at Halls’ Welsh Bridge salerooms.
