Card bonanza for Shepton Mallet

06 February 2007Written by ATG Reporter

ON Friday and Saturday, February 23 and 24, the Royal Bath and West Showground at Shepton Mallet will host the largest postcard, tradecard, postal history and ephemera fair in the UK.

The Festival of Cards, organised by Barrie Rollinson, president of the Postcard Club GB, will field 140 dealers from across the UK and Ireland and abroad, all trading with each other.

"The show was established at Yeovil in 2000 and then transferred to Shepton Mallet last year where it was a big success," said Barrie. "Postcards generally represent a real wallow into nostalgia, with most collecting material coming from the Edwardian era and the following decade, when the sending and receiving of cards became a national craze."
