SPINK have acquired the assets of Collectors Gallery and have appointed the managing partner of the dealership Mike Veissid as director for their new bond and share department.
The acquisition means that the London auctioneers have gained a well-known name in the business as well as one of Europe’s largest stocks of shares and bonds, certainly among the best in the world for British and Commonwealth material.
This continues Spink’s policy of branching out into new areas, having added musical instruments to their portfolio last year by taking an equity stake in Brompton’s Auctioneers.
Mr Veissid is known as a foremost expert in bonds and shares. He started out in the auction business at the age of 19, working in the coin department of Sotheby’s, before becoming a dealer in bonds and share certificates in 1976.
His business originally had offices in Trafalgar Square but moved to Shropshire in 1985. In 1987 he acquired Peter Jones Numismatic Books and in 1992 the Collectors Gallery was founded, which dealt not only in bonds and shares but also coins, banknotes, medals and stamps.
