Taught primarily in English, this two-year programme – one of a number of new MAs offering practical as well as academic training for those who wish to work in today’s art market – takes place in Paris and London with study trips to Florence in the autumn and to Brussels in the spring to coincide with the European Art Fair at Maastricht. “We wanted students to learn in situ,” said Françoise Schmitt, director of IESA, “so we created a new version of the Grand Tour for today’s history of art student.”

Although the study of the art market has been a subject for academic research, Adriana Turpin, academic director who is based at the Wallace Collection, believes no other MA provides an opportunity to understand the way in which taste changed how works of art were presented, displayed and understood, or in some cases faked.

Founded in 1985 by Françoise and Jean-Marie Schmitt, IESA offers three degree courses: art market, arts events management and multimedia. More information is available at www.iesa.edu
