PRESENTER and interviewer Jeremy Paxman, pictured right, has agreed to be the patron of this year’s Antiquarian Book Fair, which will be held at Olympia in West London from June 9 to 12.
A household name as a no-nonsense current affairs broadcaster,
Mr Paxman is also the author of several books, from travel and
biochemical warfare to Englishness and fly fishing.
"We are delighted to have such a well-informed and erudite
patron," said Adrian Harrington, chairman of the fair.
As I am sure everyone now knows, this year is the bicentenary of
the death of Admiral Lord Nelson, so the Admiral himself, his
battles and indeed anything to do with the sea will feature
strongly.
The Paxman presence would seem to guarantee that plenty of
exhibitors will have some politics and political caricatures in
stock, while the perennially popular areas such as children's
books, flora, fauna and gastronomy will again be strong.
Organised by the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association, this is
Europe's leading book fair of its kind and showcases 130
association members (many of them from overseas since the ABA has
home and away chapters).
With not just first editions but illuminated manuscripts, early
maps and incunabula on offer, prices can range up to
£500,000.
