FOUR days prior to the Scientific and Engineeering sale April 3, CSK had another sellout success with 64 lots of model locomotives and stock, the bulk of which came from the collection of the late David Jenkinson.
Mr Jenkinson's love of railways and locomotives stemmed from a
childhood travelling on regular trips between London and Yorkshire
to see relatives. His model-building career dated from the 1960s,
when he worked as education and training officer in the RAF. In
1973 a career change led to a total involvement in railwayana as
head of education and research at the National Railway
Museum.
Many of the models in the auction were either scratch built or
built up by Mr Jenkinson including the three LMS corridor coaches,
pictured right, which made the top price of the £57,430 sale at
£3200. They form part of the Royal Train as at the accession of
George VI and are finished in a special livery of LNWR colours with
more elaborate lining and the LMS insignia.These and several of the
other rakes of coaches made multi-estimate sums, although there
were also plenty of opportunities to buy things within estimate for
three-figure prices.
