The pieces of appeal to collectors included a Newlyn copper easel photograph frame with a dragon border which made £380; a silver marrow scoop which took £110 from an overseas buyer; and an interesting, if badly damaged, blue transfer printed pottery bowl with cover and stand. This last, inscribed Remember them that are in Bonds and decorated with a print of a kneeling slave by J.W. Le Grand, was dated 1816 and sold at £190.
Two small glass collections attracted interested from an Australian collector with five opaque twist glasses selling at £580 and two Sunderland Bridge goblets fetching £420.
Right time for collectors
TRADITIONAL favourite in the form of a mantel clock led Stride & Son's (15% buyer's premium) 1000-lot July 30 sale but probably more eye-catching were the collectors’ items. The clock, a 19th century mahogany example in a Georgian-style balloon case by London makers Camerer Cuss, went to a Kent buyer at £2300.
