The home of the Dukes of Northumberland, Alnwick Castle has been owned by the Percy family since the 14th century, but I doubt – other than from the viewpoint of medieval marauding Scots – if it has ever been more in the limelight than in recent years.
It was a location for the Harry Potter films and the Alnwick Gardens have been added to the site’s attractions.
The standfitted, datelined, fair is held in the Guest Hall and hosts some 30 dealers from one end of the country to the other.
Cathedral Antiques travel down from Fortrose, near Inverness with their period furniture and both Meg Armstrong Antiques and Chosen Antiques make their way up from Cornwall, the former with Japanese works of art and the latter with 19th century paintings.
From not so far away comes Barnard Castle dealer David Deacon who specialises in tackle, rods, reels and anything relating to fishing.
Admission is £3.50.
The castle re-occupied
