Chilcotts of Tiverton will, coincidentally, operate from the Chilcot School (one ‘t’), a listed former school hall in St. Peter’s Street built in 1611 by Robert Chilcot. “We started looking for premises and the school literally had our name on it,” said Mr Chilcott, 45, an auctioneer for 25 years who spent 13 years working for Bonhams in the West Country before resigning last December.
Mr Chilcott and his wife Elizabeth plan regular auctions of antique furniture and general furnishings, plus quarterly fine sales and biannual sales of collectors’ items. The first sale is planned for mid September. For more information contact 01884 250020.
