During the First World War there was a lawyer named Robinson (there are no further details at the moment) and he bought only the best English gold coins. He made several purchases in the celebrated Red Cross sale at Christie's in 1915 and continued to buy until the beginning of the Great Depression (c.1928) mainly at Sotheby's and Glendinings.  There was nowhere else in London at that time. It is worth noting that this sale will bring to the market coins which have not been available for study by any living savant; consequently previously unheard of prices may be predicted.

St James's Auctions are working in collaboration with Baldwin's Auctions Ltd as far as cataloguing and sale administration is concerned.

It has already been reported in the Antiques Trade Gazette that Bloomsbury Auctions (24 Maddox St., London W1S 1PP) are to open a numismatic auction department. Their first sale is scheduled for Monday, October 11 following the Coinex annual London exhibition at the end of the previous week. A busy autumn is in store.
