THE August 25 sale at Burton-on-Trent auctioneers Richard Winterton includes a collection of studio pottery formed since the 1950s by the vendor who trained under, and for over 49 years has been a friend of, David Leach.

Alongside work by Leach and his celebrated father are pots by Lucie Rie, Tsuja Hamada, Harry Davis, Michael Cardew and Barbara Cass – some received as gifts. Estimates range from £200 for a Hamada tea bowl to £700 for a Michael Cardew oil jar, with £300-400 expected for a documentary 1950s photograph album showing Bernard Leach, Hamada and David Leach at work pictured right.
