There is much to be recommended, such as Harold Knight’s watercolour Low Tide, Staithes (£18,000), shown right, a charming c.1900 watercolour Off to Sleep (£16,000) by his wife Dame Laura Knight (1877-1970) a colourful, ‘loose’ watercolour (£1850) by Hannah Mayor (1871-1947), and Frederic Stuart Richardson’s (1855-1934) large Royal Academy exhibit of 1899, In for the Morning Market (£18,000).

Coincidentally, the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society has just published The Yorkshire Union of Artists 1888-1922
by Dennis Child (ISBN: 1 870737 16 4), a 117-page paperback which features some of the artists associated with the Staithes Group.
