Carved in a distinctly nautical style with ropetwists, knots and a pair of dolphins to either side, the mirror had been consigned in original, though hardly perfect condition, with expectations of £300-500.
A contest ensued between the Exeter trade and John Prestige, with the Brixham dealer winning out at £3100. Mr Prestige went on to secure the other major lot in the sale – an Edwardian mahogany triple door bookcase at £2900.
