A hands-on role in gallery management and fine art
handling - CENTRAL LONDON.
Sotheby's New Bond Street is the company's flagship auction
location in Europe. The complex comprises 13 galleries which lend
themselves to exhibitions, auction sales, events and private
functions. The expert departments also provide private viewing
facilities, safe property storage, cataloguing areas and
Working closely with the Auction Operations Office and assisting
the Gallery Manager, this role involves high profile and hands-on
management of a team of technicians, ensuring the safe handling,
storage, movement and installation of all works of art throughout
the galleries. You will ensure that technician, security and other
support is available at all times through planning and scheduling
work, monitoring deadlines and regular meetings with your team.
Security is of prime importance as is ensuring the viewings, sales,
gallery security and auctions are prepared and presented to the
highest standards for public viewing and run smoothly.
Communicating regularly with all Auction Operations, Risk,
Property and Facilities Management, you will appreciate budgetary
pressures and the need for a flexible approach to meet the seasonal
nature of our work. This could involve evening and weekend working
as well as assisting at other sites.
While you will need a sound appreciation of the auction world,
it is equally important that you have extensive relevant gallery
experience and are prepared for a hands-on role. You must be calm
under pressure, have strong interpersonal skills and a proactive,
problem solving approach. Computer literacy is required as is the
ability to undertake heavy lifting as required.
