Sotheby's

Assistant Gallery Manager

Sotheby's

A hands-on role in gallery management and fine art handling - CENTRAL LONDON.

Sotheby's New Bond Street is the company's flagship auction location in Europe. The complex comprises 13 galleries which lend themselves to exhibitions, auction sales, events and private functions. The expert departments also provide private viewing facilities, safe property storage, cataloguing areas and photographic studios.

Working closely with the Auction Operations Office and assisting the Gallery Manager, this role involves high profile and hands-on management of a team of technicians, ensuring the safe handling, storage, movement and installation of all works of art throughout the galleries. You will ensure that technician, security and other support is available at all times through planning and scheduling work, monitoring deadlines and regular meetings with your team. Security is of prime importance as is ensuring the viewings, sales, gallery security and auctions are prepared and presented to the highest standards for public viewing and run smoothly.

Communicating regularly with all Auction Operations, Risk, Property and Facilities Management, you will appreciate budgetary pressures and the need for a flexible approach to meet the seasonal nature of our work. This could involve evening and weekend working as well as assisting at other sites.

While you will need a sound appreciation of the auction world, it is equally important that you have extensive relevant gallery experience and are prepared for a hands-on role. You must be calm under pressure, have strong interpersonal skills and a proactive, problem solving approach. Computer literacy is required as is the ability to undertake heavy lifting as required.

In return you can look forward to a competitive salary and benefits that include private health cover, pension, life assurance and permanent health insurance.

To apply, please upload your CV and a covering letter through the Sotheby's careers portal at the following address:
