The 4ft x 4ft 10in (1.21 x 1.48m) canvas, unusually large for the artist, was executed in 1911 and was exhibited the following year at the famous group show of the Brücke artists at the legendary art salon of Fritz Gurlitt in Berlin.
Kirchner was always fascinated by the dance halls and music theatres of his time, they provided plenty of subject matter for his paintings, drawings and woodcuts.
This canvas was one of the last paintings Kirchner painted in Dresden, before he moved to Berlin.
The painting was documented by a black and white photograph in a publication from 1920 and was last shown in public at an exhibition in a Berlin gallery in 1923.
Since 1944 it has belonged to a private collection in Baden-Württemberg, having been acquired from the legacy of another German collector.
On June 7, the dance scene is one of the prominent lots at Ketterer in Munich, where it has a guide of €2m-3m.
